Office Shivas

When I look in the mirror and at my staff and see Office Shivas looking back at me, it's my signal to take a close look at how we work.

The questions begin to flow. Are we, as a department, setting priorities, focusing on what's important and all heading in the same direction? In the positive sense of shedding old habits, is it time for us to change direction, for me to give up some control (*nervous shakes*) or to toss decisions we've outlived or outgrown? Is it time to add more staff?

What should I be seeing and what should I be hearing that I am not? If you could write a message to me on the white board, what would it be?

OK, Lisa. Here's my note.

Sounds like you're playing "What will happen to us?" or, perhaps, "Why did I ever think I could do this?" In either case, your perspective is gone. To regain it try any or all of the following.

Take a walk.
Go out to dinner and leave the Blackberry home.
Workout.
Take the kid shopping for kid stuff.
Play golf or dance or bungee jump or anything that will claim 100% of your attention.

Whatever you do, get out of the office and stay away from the damn mirror.

It's time to DISORGANIZE! Ask What if? Why? How Come?

To often we organize ourselves too naturally into a bearucracy and continue to do habits that had utility and value once, and now have a life of their own. Some of these habits had utility only once. What if we quit doing .....

Disorganize I say and do it now.
